my 84 runs good, but not grrreat. need some advice on stuff to look at. heres what ive done:
new cr43ts plugs at.035
MSD 8mm helicore wires
new fuel filter
new header gaskets
new tomco platinum 02 sensor
new pcv
hers what was done before me:
engine tranny rebuit less than 10,000
thats all i know from the owner
has stock air intake with K&N filter
car is STOCK
it just seems that the car should have more ass
my 78 buick TR smoked melted the rear tires, but the 84 cant do it at all. have no money right now for fuel pump, injectors adj. regulator, that type of stuff so whats the cheapest of the upgrades that i should do first for the time being. car has ADJ wastegate rod. I also noticed a hesitation from 2-3 with the TPS set at .044 and 4.6 now its at .047 and 5.1 and the hes. is alot less but the power doesnt seem as strong from takeoff. HELP ME.
THANKS GUYS

is the k&n filter a cone or like the factory filter? the engine wont run with a cone type filter!
the tps should be set at .45 volts
first use acdelco plugs r45ts at .035
if you have or can get a scanner see if the mass air flow reads 5 grams. it has to read 5 grams no more no less. if it doesent read 5 grams nobody makes a good mass air flow sensor, you would just have to try different part stores. check the cam sensor timing, my friend had the same problem and he went to a shop where they told him how to set the sensor. other than that the rest could be costley ie: injectors. oh and another thing use a acdelco o2 sensor you cann still get them from buick. the turbo motor doesent like aftermarket o2 sensors.
i hope this helps.

I've got an '84 T-Type that's running without a filter (only in the shop). It came with a K&N cone filter which was dirty and not installed on the intake. The plastic MAF pipe was crushed from being sucked in by vacuum. I cleaned the filter with the K&N cleaner and oiled it but haven't put it back on yet. Are you saying that the car won't run with the cone? I've got an '85 GN which has a cylinder shaped job with a red end on it. That filter seems to have less surface area that the cone. What gives?
George

my whole setup is STOCK. the eng and xmsn were rebuilt stock as far as i know.the KN air filter is the stock type. My tps is set higher and it seems that the 2-3 shift is alot smoother (previous posts).the throttle response sucks though so if i reset the tps throttle response will be better but the stutter from 2-3 comes back what gives?

exactly what is meant by "wont run with a cone filter?" Running 84GN with a 8" and 9" cone filter(w/ stock plastic intake tube) for....well now for years(3) havnt had any issues....or am I missing something? As far as setting tps, check TV cable adjustment, reset to stock setting after setting tps and adjust accordingly to firmness and shift points as ness. Or was it possably replaced with aftermarket onewhen trans was gone over?

maybe thats where im missing a step. I have tried the TV adj. when i first got the car it was pulled all the way out and it shifter very hard and the guy told me so i set it according to gnttype and it really shifted alot soother i think ill give it another look when i reset tps ill do the tv at the same time and see what happens. by the way anyone have a # for the K&N 8 or 9in cone? i ve seen and heard of a lot of people using them with good results. SAM is your filter right off the MAF or on the 90' elbow going down? seen it both ways just curious. TAHNKS

J, I ran my cone directly off of the MAF sensor. The numbers on the box are as follows PN#RU-2710 some of the dimensions on box are 3 5/16"flange, 4 3/4"OD base,2 1/2"top, 6 1/2"long. paid @42.00. used the bracket off of the old air box(bolts to MAF) and mtd to inner fender well. I do have a ram air set up using old air box, 9" cone, that 90deg elbow you reffered to nad a piece of intake hose plumbed into boxed in radiator area....this was hard work but i think it will show good results....if you need anything else...hollar...good luck!
