i found a 1984 t-type with 80000 something miles on it. the two things i would like to know is how rare is it to have a t-type with bench seat colum shifter posi and aluminium drums. secondly what mods should i start out with and what should i look out for when nuying it, being that i already looked at the buying section of the site.

it sounds like to me that it is not a t-type because of the bench seat and colum shifter all gn's, t-types are bucket seats and console shifted so i would run the vin with a police officer before you buy the car. i have a 84 gn and when you run the vin it should come back (t-type) they all do if there real turbo cars. mabe you found a clone which is alright to some extent but i wouldn't pay t-type price. i would find out what regular regals are going for in your area and use that as a guide for buying the car.

I have two T-Types, an '84 and an '86. Both with bench seats and column shifts.

Would you suggest I have my VIN's checked also?

Some T-Types did come with 60/40 seats and a half console and column shift!

< I have a 84 gn and when you run the vin it should come back (t-type)they all do if there real turbo cars.

Only through 1986 is this true the 87 GN's were a model not an option!

As long as the eight character in the VIN is the number 9 and the eleventh is the letter P than you have a legit turbo. I just got rid of a 84 T-Type with split bench column shift and digital dash and if I am not mistaken this was the standard set up in a T for 83-87. On a T-type buckets were an option and of course the console was a no cost option with the buckets. On the 84-86 the GN was an option on the T-type. My title and the original MSO on my 86 GN reads Buick Regal T-type Grand National. In 87 it gets a little sticky. As near as I can tell the very early GN's it was still an option on the Regal, not the "T". I remember seeing a window sticker at the dealer about October 86 on the first 87 that hit the area and it listed the LC2 turbo option and the WE2 GN option seperatly. The facts aren't to clear but it is believed to be three different variations for the window stickers for 87 GN's. There is information available out there in the Facts and Figures books that all the vendors sell but IMO dont take it as the final word as I've read just about every single one and theres a lot of misinformation out there. Its kind of like saying if you weren't around when these cars were new than whatever you hear must be the truth. Thats just my opinion. Good luck with your 84 and as far modifacations always start with the fuel and induction systems and dont forget to check the resources section.

This is all kind of curious. I have an '85 T-Type with bucket seats and a column shift.

Your T-Type's options were possible to order from the factory. Prior to the 1987 model year, it was possible to order damn near any combination of seats in a non-GN turbo vehicle. Typically steel drums are seen on the posi rears but aluminum drums could have been ordered by the customer. I've been studying Kirban's Guide to 86-87 Turbo Regals lately. With the exception of 1987, you could have ordered a T-Type with any type of seats (bench, 45-55 split, 45-45 split in cloth or leather, or bucket) in 4 colors. In fact with the bucket or 45-45 split, you could have ordered the full length center console with shifter, 1/2 console (tall) with column shifter or NO console whatsoever with column shifter. With no console you'd have a clear view of the floor between the front seats. Sounds odd but it's true.

Whoops, my bad. You could opt for NO center console with only the 45-45 split seats. The buckets required a console.

When I left the Buick dealer I retained the Buick new car order guide binders from 1984 to 1987 including the mid-year changes. If you need clarification let me know.
