I'm having problems getting my motor to start.

Here's my set-up & issues that I'm hoping some of you world class mechanics can diagnose:

84 GN with recent rebuild on all motor internals
10/10 stock crank
.030 cylinder bore with hypereutectic pistons
Poston's GN107T cam
green stripe 30# injectors
Kirban's billet adjustable f/p reg
160 degree t-stat
Walbro 340 w/hotwire kit

The car was starting, idling, & running great through the gears but at constant RPM would start to buck then backfire hard through the throttle body & blow black smoke out the exhaust. This was with TS42's & stock regulator (& it was gas fouling the plugs at ~150 mile intervals.

I had AC TS42's in it with stock regulator. I've sort of concluded that it was running way fat with the cam, inj, cold plugs, & stock reg, so went to TS43's & adjusted the f/p down (a mechanic installed the adj reg & plugs & at this point I don't know for sure what PSI is on the rail). He also found that the boost line to the wastegate sensor was blowing off causing overboost.

In the process, the ignition quit firing on 1, 3, &5. ECM & crank sensor were swapped with '84 parts, coil pack & module was swapped with 'known good' C3I setup from 87 but the 'mechanic' that installed it didn't know there are differences in the pin assignments. According to him, no changes with any of the ignition changes.

I'm at a loss here. Any ideas??

Additional info to "HELP" -

Car currently has '84 ign module & coil pack, cam sensor just set correctly to tech info specs @ 25*, TPS @ .42 (idle) & 4.72 (WOT). New Delco plug wires on right coil towers.

It's getting spark on all 6 & did start but ran rough & died at idle. Now won't start.

I had a very similar problem. The car started and ran and drove for about a day and a half and all the sudden it stopped and wouldn't run any longer. Turned out that I installed the cam wrong. *OOPS* The cam had 3 different ways to adjust timing and as it turned out, I had it aligned to the wrong mark. Took me a while to figure that one out.

I'm having a very similar problem on my 84 GN, it's runnning very rich. So rich that it's fouling plugs that eventually won't fire.

I'm using stock injectors, Red Armstrong's adjustable FP regulator, his XP pump and Casper's hot wire. I've also got Harry Hurska's 206 cam.

In my case, I can get the car to idle, but it has an awful stumble off idle, I have to "feather" the throttle to get any RPMs above idle. I've checked and rechecked vacuum hoses, cam sensor timing and swapped out crank sensor and C3I module/coil packs. I've jockeyed the fuel pressure lots. I've also taken the Plecan gambit of disconnecting the O2 sensor (which, of course, sets a code). In all cases the car behaves the same way.

Like Phil, my cam timing gear kit came with three settings. I degreed the cam to 4 degrees retard in order to match the cam card, but after reading Phil's comments that'll be my next change.
