What is the normal idle speed for an 84 or 85? I have an 84 Riviera T-Type with an 85 engine. With the 84 chip the engine idles at 650 RPM. With the 85 chip it idles at 500 RPM. Which is normal? 500 seems too slow to me. It is idling so slow that the alternator won't charge at idle.

Thanks

Andrew,

I assume that your car has a stock chip. Is that correct? Sounds like what my stock 84 chip does.

Another reason I am thinking that there may be a problem with the 85 chip is because it won't allow the AC compressor to engage. The AC works fine with the 84 chip.
