in the last year, i have aquired an 85 GN. Got it running great, and i have been tieing up some odds and ends so i can get it on the road. One of my last jobs to complete are the brakes... It currently has the origonal Powermaster brake system on it and they don't work at all... I've been thinking about converting 2 vaccum brakes. Can anyone give any suggestions on installation, and/or tips or tricks to the procedure. Is it an "in garage" kinda job or should i take it to a shop? Also, have there been any problems associated with the converstion to vaccuum? THANX

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/brakes/brakespage.html

in the Brake Maintenance section has 3 different "How To" articles on converting to vacuum brakes.

Hope that helps!

Like Ken said, there are several articles on the site that do a great job of describing the work and listing the parts needed. I did this in my garage using all junkyard parts and tee-ing into the line from the PCV valve and it works great!

I just got a vaccum setup along w/a pedal from a junk yard off of an 83 olds... so... i suppose anything from an 83 up to an 87 would be fine.

Jonthan, it's very easy to do what you have will work fine. Really no special tools, just some metric sockets and wrenches.
The hardest part is the pedal, it takes two wrenches I believe it's either a 17 or 18mm, can't remember which once you get that the rest is easy.
I done this conversion a couple of years ago if there is anything I can help you with just let me know.

David
