Hi I have a 85 GN. Should I use the driver's side service port to tap my fuel pressure gauge into. It is a hood mounted auto meter I am using the bracket from Cotton's Performance. Also I think the fuel pump is hot wired, but I am not sure. When the key is on but the car is not started the fuel pump runs and does not stop, it just keeps running. Car runs awesome and very fast but the fuel pump doesnt stop when the key is on??? Does this indicate that a hot wire kit is hooked up wrong or that the factory wiring is bad?? I have no info on the mods to her. The second owner did the mods. I think I am the fourth. I am trying to get a hold of him. Cant wait to get her out this spring. Spring cleaning right around the corner! Sorry for the novel.....this site is awesome!!!

I have an '84 with an A-pillar mounted mechanical
FP guage and tapped in to the fuel rail where you
described. It works fine but you may want to
install a 'tee' so that you maintain provisions
for a test port. Hope this helps.

Nick

for the problem look where the hood light there should be a wire black with a red stripe. then there should be a green connector by the coil pack with 1 wire in it. the green cinnector is for if the car doesnot start you can put 12 volts to it and it will bypass the ignition switch and keep the pump running all the time. un plug this connection and it should run with the key on engine off for 3 to 5 seconds, and all the time when the engine is running.

Whoa! Don't do that! The green connector has TWO wires in it, and it's NOT for the fuel pump prime! It's the tach tap. Don't attach ANY power to that otherwise you'll damage the coil module. The fuel pump prime has a single gray wire in a black connector found near the green connector, breaking out of the harness around the same area. This connector can be fed to the positive (alternator stud comes to mind) to bypass the ECM and turn the fuel relay on.

so how do I tell if the pump is hot wired or not. by looking behind the alternator....do i want the pump to run like that or to shut off after a couple of seconds like it should..i guess my question is: is it hot wired already or how do i tell and should I make it so that the pump runs just enough to start the car not contiously.....thanks very much for the info John, i like the coil pack the way she is...haha.

Look behind the rear bumper, you will see an orange connector from the gas tank. If it's one of our hotwire kits, it will have the sealed relay within a few inches of the connection. and there will be an attachment to the alternator, inline fuse, and a cable that goes to the rear of the car. Look at:

then click on "INSTALLATION" for more details.
