Jordan Wakefield (Canadajordan) | Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 05:10 pm I have an 84 that I have just started to restore. I want to change the fuel pump but there is a problem with the new fuel pump not being long enough. I had a Holley pump that was supposed to fit but was about 3/4" too short so I decided to see about a stock one. Got that in and same problem...too short. Anyone had this problem? Seems GM has changed the hanger a few times and decided that the most recent fuel pump made was good for all years. What pump will fit, the one I pulled out is 5 1/2" long. |
mario rodriguez (Buicktime) | Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 06:19 pm Most, if not all replacement fuel pumps eliminate the fuel pump pulsator and put a rubber fuel hose in it's place. The rubber hose approx. 2 1/2 - 3 inches long (5 1/6 in diameter) is placed in between the fuel pump and the sending unit. MARIO |
Phil Aubrey (Paubrey) | Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 06:24 pm I would put the plusator back in if not there. GM part number 25094266. They are around $10.00 |
Eric Fisher (Ericf) | Wednesday, June 11, 2003 - 09:13 am I have found some of the race fuels and octane additives that us TR guys like to run deform the rubber in the pulsator( and rubber fuel line for that matter) causing it to leak later on. If you dont mind putting up with a little extra noise I would recommend just using a hose to attach the fuel pump. |
