Im new to the gn ttype world but i will be picking up an 85 ttype and i was wondering if it possible to swap over to an 87 intake, turbo, ic and everything. Is it possible? I know the turbo is currently on top of the motor and i know the 87 and 86's have the turbo of to the side. I want to put an intercooler on the car but if its possible to switch it over to 86-87 intake id like to do that.If possible, what is needed? thanks to everyone in advance.

Just so you know the V2 intake they are talking about in some of those posts is not being made anymore. Not sure how much this helps ya. Try doing more searches on this board, turbobuick.com, turbobuicks.com too.

Kyle,
I was in the same situation as you a year ago. I talked with Jack Cotton (Cotton Performance...Agawam, Ma) and he suggested I simply install an 86-87 engine in my 84. I bought a used engine from him and made the change. The car is MUCH faster with the late setup than with the stock hot air engine! But, this is no simple swap!

You will have to change out the heater core, install new engine wiring harness, new cat, new radiator, new air conditioniong condensor, new power brake setup (I went with vacuum booster and love it), new accelerator cable, new transmission (86-87 is stronger than 84-85), new TV cable, new air conditioning compressor and hoses, new front airdam, and new dash wiring (I haven't done that yet and most of the warning lights do not work), new power source for the delay relay (86-87 get power for electric cooling fans from the powermaster fuse but 84's don't have powermaster so there is no fuse), new hi and low fan relays, etc.

This is a difficult swap that involves many, many small parts. I got the car together and it was not running right. I eventually pulled the car to Jack's shop (NC to MA) and he spent 3 days installing a new tranny and troubleshooting the swap. Eventually found a bad injector wiring harness and a bad ground. I had grounded the battery to the turbo bracket that I had powdercoated. Wrong! The ground wire go to the passenger side head or block. I cannot remember which but you cannot see the threaded hold with the turbo in place!

My advise is for you to purchase a 86-87 turbo buick parts car with EVERYTHING under the hood intact and make the swap. Otherwise, sell your 84-85 and purchase a 86-87. E-mail or call me if you want to talk about this.
