Just got done looking at parts list in the tech area of this site and there was a 180 degF thermostat called out for the 84-85s, according to General Motors? I thought stock would have been 192-195 degF. And then I look in the box of parts that I got with my car last night and it was a 160 t-stat. Dammit!
Is it possible to run these cars with a lower t-stat without changing the computer prom? I haven't checked to see if my prom has been changed, but if it's totally stock what temp do you recommend?

Depends on what you want. The stock one is 180 degrees for the 84-85. The chip won't care if you use a 160. Performance increases with lower temps but gas mileage suffers along with emmisions. The 86-87 uses a 195 because of emmisions barely passing in 1986.

OK, I'll just go with the 180. Thanks.
