I bought my GN in Oct. of 2002, since then i really havent had too much time to work on it(im in the military and have a wife son and house to takecare of you know how it goes) The upgrades on the car go like this kenne bell headers new "stock" turbo and a caspers 93 octane 16 psi chip. Those are the only things i know of that are on the car. The turbo has about 1500 miles on it i put it on in Dec 2003.along with the chip. The problems i am having dont seem to be severe but hey im a new guy and could be wrong this cars are picky. prob #1 when powerbraking the car i get to about 2200 rpms and the car backs off and the rpms drop. This isnt normal is it? i found this out by mistake as i was building boost and the tires broke loose. Prob #2 I am getting a heavy exhaust smell in the car at start up could this be the Cat,exhaust system looks fine no leaks or anything. I am really wanting to start on the performance aspect of the car but i know i have to get the small stuff out of the way first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Harry

My guess would be to clean and reset the IAC and double check your fuel pressure. The car backing-off leads me to believe you're getting some knock-retard so back off the boost a bit or you're running really rich. When this stuff starts to happen, I usually go back to basics and start fresh.
Can you nail it after you start her rolling? Or, does it die whenever you stomp on it?
It could also be the MAF. With the car idling, tap on it lighltly with the handle end of a screwdrive, if the car stumbles, the MAF is bad. Also, disconnect the MAF and drive the car. Tell us how it drives

I have the same problem. from a dead stop if i floor it the car stumbles to the point of either almost stalling or stalling. but if i ease in to it for a sec then floor it, its fine. also when i am rolling at any speed and floor it, its also fine. i do know that my tps is worn out. my fuel pressure is good and i still need to clean and reset the iac. its just to damn cold here in Central New York during the winter and we have seen about 85-90 inches of snow so far this season. well any help for Herry and I is very thankfull.

thanks,
John
