The Saga begins....
Early this spring I took my 84' GN out for the first time. I filled the tank with high test & drove it home. Next trip out I barely made it home.
Fuel was contaminated with fine silt. Got through filter to injectors. Replaced tank. Blew out lines. Cleaned injectors. Replaced fuel regulator. Replaced MAP sensor. Replaced MAS. Still have the same problem.
Motor starts, won't idle, pukes black smoke when you try to give it fuel.
Could the ECM be the problem, or some other sensor I haven't addressed?
Please help,I'm at my wits end.

How did you clean the injectors? Your definitely running too rich. 02 sensor probably fouled along
with the plugs. I'd start there, new plugs if needed and a new 02 sensor.Doubtful ECM has anything to do with it. Could also be caused by
vacuum leaks,header leaks.HTH

Thanks Robert for steering me in the right direction. Haven't had time to get the plugs and O2 sensor yet. Would you know the GM and/or AC-Delco numbers for that sensor? Thanks again!

Hey John
02 sensor AFS-20 GM
Also Bosch available from most auto parts stores.
Ask for your year and the 231(3.8) Turbo V6 motor.
I'd just pull a couple plugs and see if they are black. No need to change them, if not needed,
There's some vacuum diagrams at my sight to make sure everything is hooked up right.(No Leaks)

Glad to help,if i CAN.

Hey Bob;
Thanks again for your help. I printed the diagrams to take to the garage. Tried to contact you via your web site but wouldn't go through. (Something about server couldn't find current version.) Is there a way to test for vacuum leaks other than visually inspecting each hose and connection? Spray solution, black light, or test guage?(I used a soap solution to test for propane leaks.) Keep in touch, (Please!)
Thanx!
John Jasman
