We have an '84 T-Type. It was running fine, now it barely idles, and when given throttle, it hesitates and sometimes backfires.

My husband says it appears to be running lean but we don't know how to adjust or fix it.

Any ideas? Also, we don't have a scan tool or anything special for this type of car. (Thats why we like it, we never had to :-) ).

well could be a ton of things and more info is needed, but your symtoms are somtimes typical of low fuel pressure, any comp shop can ck this for u in a matter of min. or if you feel up to the challenge the press cking port is on the drivers side fuel rail at the end (tward front of eng) very near the fuel press reg. maybe u can bum a gauge from a friend, should be around 35 or so, there is a specific spec but if this is your problem the press will be noticably low. also another symtom of the same problem will be no power if at all.

Could be alot of things. Bad idle probably the IAC, it could be dirty. Vacuum leaks can cause this along with a loose turbo bolt or throttle body bolt.Backfiring could be bad MAF sensor, bad plug wires, bad coil, leaks on tb or turbo. There's some diagram's on my site that show where everything's at.

Hope this helps.
