Steven C. Weisenberger (Weis) | Monday, January 28, 2002 - 04:25 pm It was a beautiful jan. day in Michigan on sunday. so i decided to take my 85 GN (48000 mi) out for a drive. Hasnt been started in 3 months. Didnt leak oil when I put it away. Noticed a puddle of oil under it when I went to get it out. Coming out appears somewhere above oil pan, possible rear main? Will it possibly go away after driven for a while?(dried out seal from sitting)? Thanx for any advice |
Dwight Hayden (Elevensecgn) | Monday, January 28, 2002 - 10:19 pm Very possible that it will quit once it's driven some. My 455 Buick powered Street rod does the same every winter while it is sitting. After a few miles it swells the seal back up and don't mark territory during the summer when I am using it often. BUT keep a close check on it for a while to make sure it don't drop to an unsafe level. Good luck, and hope it isn't anything worse. If the oil consumption continues, I would look at the valve cover gaskets first, then the rear main seal. |
