I recently aquired an 84GN but it seems when I get on the gas it doesn't want to get out of it's own way. I changed the plugs and the coilpack (87 conv) is fairly new. I contacted someone about having the pack tested and they said I was "barking up the wrong tree" with the source of my issue. If I give it some gas the car hesitates and sometimes there's a "pop" noise from the front of the car. Overall It really doesn't feel like 200hp..
Thanks!

Could be alot of things.Without any scan data hard to tell.TPS could be out of adjustment, bad plug wires, loose throttle body/turbo bolts, leaking
turbo to intake adapter,bad vacuumlines,bad 02 sensor,etc. Directions here on-site for setting/checking TPS sensor.Checking coil pak.
Showing any codes?

I was actually able to fix this one. Stupid mistake on my part. As I said I just got my first GN and the plugs were gapped for a regal (.06) instead of a GN (.035). It's like night and day.
It still doesn't seem to have the power it should have; I'm going to change the tranny fluid and filter tonight and see what that does. I guess It would be good to invest in some sort of scan tool, not sure what to get. It would appear this car will need some tweaking to start running like new again. And the scan tool seems necessary for that.
Thanks.

Alright I've done just about everything on the spring cleaning page and everything seems to be running almost perfect. But it still seems as if the car isn't going anywhere. The stock boost gauge moves as I'm driving, the car shifts fine but it just doesn't seem like there is any power at all when I get on the gas. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!

Sounds like time for some basic upgrades. Remember, it's the IC cars that were the rockets from the factory, the hotairs could use a little work to wake 'em up. Trust me, been there, done that! Thankfully, they are cheap and fairly easy to do. The first order of business is a fuel system beef-up, with an adjustable regulator, a 307 fuel pump, and a hotwire. Get an aftermarket boost gauge and see if there are any other Buick guys around who may have a scan tool so you can get everything tuned properly. With this alone, you can wake the car up a fair bit. If you are comfortable with the performance then great, otherwise, there are several "recipes" for performance listed under the "Resources" section. Enjoy.

Hi, this message has been here for a while, and i've had the asme problems, i just fixed it today! The Catalytic converter was broken up inside and clogged. I had the same popping noises from under the hood, and the car was just generally weak. I removed the converter, drilled out the inside with a common hand-held drill and a bit extension, and re-installed it. It was like day and night! I am getting twice the boost i got before (i had your boost situation, it barely moved past 4 psi) and the power gain is incredible! I highly reccommend taking a look at your converter.
