Hi. I have a '82 Regal Limited (non turbo v6). For the past few months i have been thinking of making more power, but i can't choose between 350 or turbo v6. I want to go faster than a stock z28 camaro. What do you guys think is the best bang for the buck? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone out there know what the stock horsepower rating of an '82 4.1L v6 (non-Turbo)is?

This engine was used in a pontiac grandprix. I would like to use in a hot rod I am building and want to know where I stand and how much I need to change to get it up to about 200 HP.

The 4.1 with 4 barrel carb was rated at 140HP. The 3.8 with 2 barrel was rated at 110HP. I built a 4.1 in an 83 Regal using mostly stock parts off of the turbo-carbs. I would say I acheived about 175HP. There is still a lot of aftermarket speed parts out there so 200HP is possible with out the turbo.

First off, if this is to be a performance oriented engine do yourself a favor and find an 83 or 84 block. They have better oil passages in the block. After that, it should be easy. The two biggest improvements will be head porting and more compression. On the heads the biggest gain will be in the pockets under the valves. Doesn't have to be radical metal removal just some shaping. The biggest expense is aftermarket pistons for a 4.1 because the engine was not that popular. The stock pistons are approx. .080" "in the hole" so they only give about 8.1:1. I had my block decked .030" to give another half point of compression. There are some nice aftermarket cams to give some punch, headers, and 4 bbl intakes. I found an old Edelbrock Performer for mine. With the current set-up I figure I am easily over 200 HP. Time will tell. Still have not fired it yet but next weekend is looking good.
