HI I HAVE AN 83 T-TYPE THAT WAS SITTING FOR 2 YEARS. THE LAST OWNER HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT TWICE BY A VERY DEPENDABLE SHOP THE TROUBLE IS THIS CLOWN HAD MONEY AND JUST LOVED BEATING ON HIS CAR [ ONLY 5000 MILES ON REBUILD ] SO I RESCUED IT AND IT HAS A ROD KNOCK BUT THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON AFTER 15 MILES WHEN YOU STOP OR GO UNDER 1100 RPMS UNDER 1800 AFTER ABOUT 30 MILES. ANY IDEA WHAT IT MIGHT NEED...THANKS SHAWN

Make sure the rod knock isn't just a cracked header (driver's side between mid and rear cylinders - very common). Cracked headers do not sound like you would think.

I would suspect the tolerences in the oil pump are bad. Remove the pump cover and see if it's galled inside. Then replace the cover with the correct THIN gasket (and prime the pump with petroleum jelly). Maybe try using a high volume rebuild kit with spacer, and longer gears.

I 2 have a knock in my 3.8.. non turbo. this si the second engien this has happened to... It sin my 4x4 chevette, so it see smud, i hit a mud hole and it die din the hole, I puled it out and found water had gotten in a hole, from a bvracket that was removed, on the vavle cover... could it be a cracke dpiston, rod... or, as you explained above, how would I tell if the headers i cracked.
when u say header do you mean exghuast manifold, or head?


Where can I find a hi volume oil pump kit?
