I just joined:-)>
I already know a few of you from turbobuick.com.
I'm lucky enough to have a car nut for a wife & get to play with both her '83 T's. The black one we're calling mine but she bought it for me & I couldn't be happier!
Here's a link if anyone hasn't seen it already.
http://www.geocities.com/tonyas_t_type/83_v6_turbo_index.html

We haven't owned either one for a year yet so there aren't many mods, mostly guages & rims so far but hopefully LOTS on the way. I have alc. kits to go on both of them & they already have adj. wastegates just begging to get turned up. The black one has a cracked header that I'm gonna replace (already have part) hopefully just as soon as we get into this new garage(uh~I mean house) & have our 1st child. (due Dec. 27th)
Glad to meet more TB addicts!

I have a stock 1980 Monte Carlo 3.8 V6 Turbo that I'm beginning to restore/customize. I've personally put over 180k of the 235+k miles on it, and it still purrs. (OK, it hiccoughs a little right now, needs a tune up after being taken out of storage.) I'm hoping to find sources for parts for this project here.

from the email list:
"When did Chevy put 3.8 litre turbo engines in any of their cars?
Dean"

1980 and 1981 Monte Carlo only had the carb 3.8L Turbo Buick engine available as an option. There was an add-on fiberglass piece offset on the hood that said turbo w/ a bowtie, and also a similar emblem on the right hand side of the dash.

I recently acquired a 1978 Monte , I was thinking about putting the drive train from the olds into
that . But the engine sit's higher in the Monte than the olds So I would have to put some
sorta scope on the hood. the Monte has a Buick V6 in it now. and it was free

This is the first I have heard of a Buick 3.8 turbo in a Monte. That has to be a rare one! If you have any pictures, I'd really like to get a look at that.

Chevy monte carlos sure did come from the FACTORY w/ 3.8 liter carbed turbo motors. Why cant you accept that? In fact there is a white one running around town here. no longer has the the 3.8 turbo but still a decent looking restification. Which is saying alot because i cant stand the body lines on those yrs.

Fred, there's some good discussion in the archives about this a couple years ago.

Thanks for the information. I have learned something and that's "a good thing." The general sure came out with a confusing and confused combination of parts in the 80's. I do agree with the comment on the Before Black web site - the intercooled 3.8 would have made a really neat Monte SS but Chebby would have probably felt the irresistible need to screw up the package with a huge amount of gaudy tape. ;)

Fred, (Fc227), I dont' see how the 78 Monte would have any higher of an engine mounting, as the 3.8NA was mounted to the engine cradle the same as the 3.8T. Hmmm. I do think that would make a nice ride; the 78 Monte is, to the best of my knowledge the lighter of your two A-bodies w/ aluminum bumper parts & decklid that your '80 Cutlass probably doesn't have. Who knows; your '80 may have an alum. hood.

One other issue the Monte weighs 80 pounds more the the olds. So at this time the olds stays.
