hey all. i have a 3.8 v6 from an 82 sunbird. the car is trashed but motor fine. i'd like to put this motor in an unsuspecting datsun 510. poor thing won't know what hit it. problem is the engine is automatic. is this an okay tranny and/or could anyone suggest a 5spd man tranny from another car? thanks for any suggestions.

I assume its from an 80 and older(82 was fwd,N/A with 3.8). As near as I can tell you should have a THM250/350 trans which is plenty strong for anything. They did offer a 5-speed in GM H-bodies but they are rare behind a 3.8 V-6(most were 4 cylinder). An auto trans is prefered for most engine swaps so you dont have to screw around with clutch and shifter linkages.

You could get a adaptor from AA and run a toyota 5 speed.
