| | Wednesday, December 26, 2001 - 08:42 pm I moved this to a more appropriate category. This isn't really an "Engine Mechanicals" question. Hopefully some knowledgeable carbed TR people will comment. I know the TR carbs are somewhat unique or at least have some pieces (metering rods, etc.) in them. Any particular reason you're not considering rebuilding it? You might also have a look at the TRader (http://www.gnttype.org/trader/) for a spare carb for your setup.

| | Thursday, December 27, 2001 - 08:00 am I agree with Scott, Rebuild the one you have. At least it is the correct application and has the right internals. I would be very leary of a parts store rebuild, price not withstanding. Many times all they are concerned about is that it has the correct externals to bolt on- but may not have the right internal calibrations. The Quadrajet is an unusual carb compared to many of the other old ones, and although many guys cuss them, if you get a book on rebuilding them and follow the instructions you should have good results. Be sure and pay particular attention to the part about epoxying the metering well plugs. That is very important. Get a rebuild kit, a new float, and probably will need a new choke pull off and you should be good to go. Dwight Hayden

| | Thursday, December 27, 2001 - 01:35 pm I agree rebuild it . You can get a rebuild kit at NAPA for around $30.00 . If you need parts I have 2 Qjets kicking around in pieces. keep our orginal parts they are very hard to come by. The two carbs I have are not computer controlled, like your's should be . If you want to keep the car orginal , rebuild it.

| | Friday, December 28, 2001 - 08:12 am How do you know the carb's "had it". There are planty of things that can happen that poeple tend to blame the carb for. Like Fred said, your '83 TR has a computer controlled carb and there are no direct, aftermarket replacements. Let us know what's wrong with the car and we will try to help you. It might be someting very simple (and cheap!). Black and Silver paint is part of a special Decor Package (like a 1984/86 WH1).
