Ok I feel this a stupid question but I am going to ask anyway. What is a sure fire way to tell your turbo needs to be rebuilt?
Yesterday, I heard a funny noise and from then on no boost. The funny part is the boost light still goes up to 10 psi. Does this sound like my turbo just died? Help me please.
First, check the simple things ...
- Check the clamps and the intercooler hoses... often times one will get loose or b
- p
- you are under boost. They especially are hard to see when lower lip of the hose. Recheck and retighten all the clamps.

- Remove the MAF hose and check the shaft play0actin5{heck all vacuum hoses and connections around the top of the plenum

I checked all the hoses, and everything looks good. I also removed the intercooler and cleaned it out. Now when the turbo kicks in I hear a screeching sound and have no boost. Have you heard of people having this problem?

how do you know you have no boost? the noise could be the turbo destroying itself due to massive end play, the fact that you say the gauge still registers tells me that it probley is making boost, I once had one that was making noise but still boosting (not spooling up real fast) but was still boosting, upon inspection the compressor wheel was having the compressor housing for lunch! like ken said look at the comp wheel and try to move it, if its going out it shouldnt be hard to see some damage,
Did you check the solenoid fuse? I had some thing like that happen to me. I blew a 10 amp fuse. Before I knew it was a fuse I got a new turbo. I put the new turbo on and the problem was still there (not getting any boost). I kept looking and found the fuse. So before you bye a new turbo, check that!!!
