Jeremy Stone (Paraffin) | Wednesday, April 24, 2002 - 01:20 pm I have a 86 GN and when i first start the engine it knocks from the engine bay and then after awhile i guess after it warms up the knocking stops. Any suggestions to what might be causeing this would be appreciated. Thanks Jeremy |
Gary Cooper (6pack) | Saturday, September 07, 2002 - 08:37 pm Don't mean to scare you but it could be piston slap. I just had a piston explode(literally)in a 1991 dodge colt vista and the car did the same thing would knock when cold and quit after it warmed up. The piston is totally gone. Just my 2 cents, I maybe wrong. And I hope I am. |
Phil Aubrey (Paubrey) | Saturday, September 07, 2002 - 08:56 pm Is a knock or loud ticking. The cam sensors on some engines will make a loud and heavy ticking when cold. |
brannon lee white (Pushrod) | Tuesday, October 15, 2002 - 07:09 pm When it is in a pull or lag does it knock. Mine does when i first crank it and when i am going up a hill around 1200 rpm. I would also like to know this. It dont matter if it cold or hot |
daniel verdusco (Dverdu) | Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 12:54 pm Check for the infamous driverside crack in the exhaust manifold between the rear two cyclinders. Remember hearing something about a cracked exhaust making a ticking noiise on start up then going away as it warms up. Hope this helps. |
