Glen W Webster (Glen) | Monday, May 13, 2002 - 08:09 pm I have a 86 GN stock except for a KB chip and ram air assy. The car starts and run only for a few seconds then it shuts off. It restarts easily but continues to have the same problem. No fault codes show in memory, fuel pressure at start and idle is 26psi. I dont drive the car all that much and when i do not that hard. I dont if its an ignition problem or not i have a spare coil pack and have considered on doing some swap tronics to see if that may help but before i do i would like to make sure i wont be damaging any new parts because of the problem. I dont honestly know if im starting at the right point or not. Im stuck....Any and all ideas at this time would be helpful Thanks in advance for everyones help. Glen Webster |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Tuesday, May 14, 2002 - 05:26 am Set the fuel pressure at 43 with the vacuum line off, set tps at 44 idle and 4.60-4.75 at wot. Try that for starters. Has anyone or you moved the cam sensor? Frank |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Tuesday, May 14, 2002 - 07:38 pm Frank, Thanks for the info. The cam sensor has not been moved. I not sure gow im going to adjust the fuel pressure if i cant keep the car running at idle or any speed but Ill try it. Ive never fouled with the pressure regulator so ill have to read up on it. Thanks Again Glen |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Tuesday, May 14, 2002 - 07:49 pm Frank, Is it possible to adjust a syock fuel pressure regulator? Thanks Glen |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Wednesday, May 15, 2002 - 03:33 am There is no adjustment on the stock reg. Remove the schaeder vavle from the fuelrail put a hose on the fuelrail into a gal jug or gas can. Turn the key on a steady flow of fuel should come out. If not it's a fuel problem. You will need help in watching the fuel. When relieving the vavle be careful of the fuel pressure. Frank |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 10:51 pm Frank, sorry it took so long to answer. I checked the tps it eas at .453. I have not had a chance to work on checking fuel flow from the fuel rail yet. Do i need a special too; to remove the schreader valve. I have a cam sensor tool and will try to check that in a day or two. Thanks Glen |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Thursday, May 23, 2002 - 04:03 am It's the same tool to remove the valve from a bike. frank |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Monday, June 10, 2002 - 02:34 pm Frank, I removed the schrader valve and hooked up a hose, there was one small squirt of fuel when i turned the key to the on position and then nothing the only time fuel came out is when the engine was cranked over. Thanks Glen |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Tuesday, June 11, 2002 - 09:43 am There is a single gray wire behind the alternator find a wire the same dia. and long enough to reach the batt. hot wire. Each time you touch the hot wire you should hear the pump run. If you don't it's probably the pump. Replace the filter also. What type of pump do you have and how long has it been since changed. How long do you let the car sit. If it sits for more than six mo. the pump can go bad. |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Tuesday, July 02, 2002 - 11:10 pm Frank, Thanks for the help. Found the problem to be one torn boot on the turbo to intercooler. Thanks again Glen |
