Hey Everyone i am new to this site but i am glad this site exists. i wasn't quite sure if there were people out there that loved the Regals as much as myself. my first car was a 1986 regal with a 307 V-8. this was the basis of most of my knowledge of buick regals also leading me to find out about the Grand National Super 6's. i have recently become the owner of a 1989 Buick Regal Gran Sport it has a 2.8 V-6 that truly suprises me on the amount of power it has especially because the former owner didn't take care of it the way he should have. i have been looking at replacing the engine with a slightly lager engine like maybe a 3.8 or something like that. a friend of mine is trying to convince me to drop a small block 350 V-8 in it but i really don't think that would go over well with the frame and motor mounts and things of that sort. i figure with that 350 i would have to put a pretty vast amount of money into the car just so it didn't twist the frame(i might be wrong on that but i just figure the frame isn't made to handle that kinda torque). The biggest problem i am having at this point is that i am not sure if i should really do away with the engine i have in it right now. i know the Grand National was one of the best and fastest V-6's due to changes with the air induction system and countless other measures. i am torn with trying for a new and bigger engine because of that. like i said i have a gran sport and i am not sure what kinda things were done,if any, to the 2.8 V-6 that is in the car. i know the car has a sports suspension and a larger than normal (for the size of the engine) radiator and cooling system. i am sure i don't have to tell most people this but the '89 model i have is not like the older body style of the one i had from '86. The body is smaller, it's front wheel drive(which i don't like to be honest but i was just happy to be back in a Regal) so i guess my question is this....does anyone know anything about this type of Regal and whether or not i should stick with the 2.8 engine that came stock or go to the 3.8 i have been pondering? i am just starting on this car as my project even to the point it still has the govenor chip that won't let me go over 85 mph before cutting out the engine. i have found that all in all i do like this car even though it isn't the style of Regal i would prefer. i figure it'll hold me over until i can get the kind i want and that way i have a car that runs well, has power, and looks sharp while i work on whatever older year Regal i get to start my family of Regals.
