Daniel Oviedo (Danster) | Wednesday, June 05, 2002 - 06:55 am I've been trying to correct a rough idle on the car without success. I recently installed a Walbro 340 plus the hot wire kit, adj fpr, fuel pressure gauge, Thrasher92 chip, angle boss, new IAC motor and a power plate. None of these has helped to correct the rough idle on the car. I've had to adjustment the screw set all the way in (clockwise) to have a decent idle. Around 700 RPM's. I followed the IAC procedure per this board and my idle is too low (car seems to want to die). If I bring the RPM's up I can hear a slight miss on the car. I have a Scanmaster2 and do not have any codes being displayed. I tried the tapping of the MAF and it seems Ok. Checked the EGR and it's seems ok. Can someone suggest what else I may be causing this symptom? FYI, I've gone through the spring cleaning already. Thanks in advance! Dannyo |
Jay (Jayster) | Wednesday, June 05, 2002 - 02:43 pm Was it running smooth before the thrasher? Whats your fuel pressure set at with vac off? For me - i had nasty rough idle and hesitation and surging at cruise..all problems went away with new injectors. It runs absolutely perfect. My car now has only 13,500 miles on it too, so just cause its low-miles doesn't mean an injector is clogged or something. Its expensive, but it fixed my problem, and in the meantime i put 009's on it since i knew i'd be hoppin her up ;) ..just my 2¢ |
Daniel Oviedo (Danster) | Thursday, June 06, 2002 - 07:08 am I had the rough idle prior to the mods. I was under the assumption the mods would fix my idle problem. Oh well, I still needed to add the mods. The car did not have the vapor canistor installed and noticed the vacuum line is not plugged. I will installing the vapor canistor and see if there's any difference. I'm gonna add some injector cleaner into the tank and see if this helps any. I might need to do the procedure for cleaning the injectors. Any other suggestions? Dannyo |
Jay (Jayster) | Thursday, June 06, 2002 - 08:04 am FYI - i forgot to mention..i also ran 2 tanks of injector cleaner, and it did absolutely nothing. That stuff is questionable at best. My injectors all tested fine, and were all working - just clogged. If I had to do it all over again - i would use that compressed fuel-rail injector cleaner instead of the in-tank cleaner as it is much more effective for stubborn blockage. |
Daniel Oviedo (Danster) | Thursday, June 06, 2002 - 10:42 am I thought about doing the procedure after seeing a can of fuel rail injector cleaner at the auto parts store. However, I'm lacking the gauges needed to insert the cleaner into the rail. I have a schrader valve but not the gauges. I might just considering purchasing since this may come handy in the future. Where's a good place to purchase the gauges? Do they have a specific name for the gauges? Any ideas of the $$$ associated with the gauges? Dannyo |
Jay (Jayster) | Thursday, June 06, 2002 - 12:30 pm "gauges? we dont need no stinking gauges!" (hehehe) The can my buddy used screwed right onto the rail itself - no gauges needed. It took about 20 min running the car off of it to drain the can, so you just pop the hood, screw it on, and yank the fuel pump fuse. Start the car, and let it do it's job. Worked great for him, but like i said earlier - i was going to need bigger injectors anyway so that was my excuse to tell the wife it was time for new injectors! |

Daniel Oviedo (Danster) | Saturday, June 08, 2002 - 05:54 am I read somewhere, one way to find out if injectors are leaking is to monitor the fuel gauge and fter the car has been turned off and see if you have any movement. I noticed on mine the needle was at 40 car on and after I turned off the car within 10 minutes the needle was at 26. I beleive it ususally gets down to around 20. Is this a good indication that one of the injectors are bad? This is probably causing my rough idle?? If so, I guess it's time to replace them since they are the stock ones. Which brand are good? I was thinking of the blue tops, but since you can't buy them new anymore would it make better sense to go with other brands of equivelant size? Dannyo |
Jeff Medlar (Lowbudget) | Monday, July 22, 2002 - 12:05 am How did you make out plugging that vacuum leak? This is certainly a possibility. Worth checking all lines and replacing any questionable ones. Also a trick I've learned is to start the engine, and while it idles, spray carb and choke cleaner around any areas where un-metered air could get in.(vacuum lines, throttle body, pcv valve, etc.) If the idle changes from doing this you may have found a leak. I found more than one I couldn't see doing this. |
