Sara O'Connor (Gngirlchvyguy) | Monday, June 24, 2002 - 09:50 am OK I'm not sure how I am going to explain this but I will do my best. I have a 1987 Turbo T with about 6k on a rebuild. When I am at WOT the car acts like it is getting power in spurts instead of all at once. (i.e. boost, no boost, boost, no boost, boost etc....) My boost is at 12lbs. The car is actually running better when I am on the highway and punch it. Where as a week ago it was running better from a dead stop. Any ideas? |

Ken Mosher (Kenmosher) | Wednesday, June 26, 2002 - 02:59 pm It's kind of hard to troubleshoot from that, but here's some thoughts:
- If you have scan tool data, look for O2 volts (might be a fuel problem ... leaning out, then recovering, etc) ... might be fuel pump
- Check fuel pump output ... it should pump a gallon in 60 seconds or less at the fuel rail test port. If not, probably pump volume.
- If you have a front mount and a stock turbo, it could be compressor surge
- Coil pack could be weak
Bad grounds causing electrical cutouts Positive battery cable shorting under the header (more common than you'd guess!) |
Sara O'Connor (Gngirlchvyguy) | Monday, July 08, 2002 - 12:27 pm OK here are some of the new problems that have shown there UGLY faces here latley. The car boggs down when under a load (i.e. over 10lbs of boost) Feels like I am only getting boost in spurts, or like something keeps releasing the pressure. to early. |
Brian Lee (Brianwagonlee) | Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 06:01 am I had a problem similar to this recently. As soon as I got into the boost just a little, the car would lose all power, and feel like someone had shut off the gas. It turned out that I had blown the hose off of the fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel pressure wasn't increasing like it should have. So, I would check this out, and also get a gauge on there to make sure that the fuel pressure is increasing with boost like it is supposed to. Brian Good luck, and let us know what you come up with. |
daniel verdusco (Dverdu) | Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 12:20 pm Had a similar problem. Turned out to be the fuel filter. |
Glen W Webster (Glen) | Tuesday, July 09, 2002 - 06:45 pm Check the hose from turbo to intercooler and the two hoses that go from intercooler to the tube and the tube to the throttle body. I had the same problem a while back turned out one hose had blown off. Then after it was reinstalled it split another hose and started surgeing under boost. Glen |
Sara O'Connor (Gngirlchvyguy) | Friday, July 12, 2002 - 10:44 am All hoses are tight without cracks, changed fuel filter. Still having the problem.... Any other ideas? |
Jay (Jayster) | Friday, July 12, 2002 - 11:24 am I agree with Ken and Brian..It sounds like fuel to me. Have you checked your fuel pressure yet? If not pressure, then volume. You fuel sock may be collapsed as well, but if the hoses are good, and you're sure of it. The only thing else i've experienced is the pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body. Pull it off, and check for oil. I was shooting a ton of oil through my intercooler because my turbo was leaking, and my car would sputter as well. The throttle body will be black looking where the hose clamps onto it if there is oil, and you will have oil in the tube as well. If you're having trouble only running 12 lbs boost - something is wrong. Make sure your Boost Solenoid vacuum lines are routed correctly and not ripped as well. There is a "Y" in the vacuum line going to the turbo and wastegate coming from the Boost Solenoid. The straight-through line goes to the Turbo. Make sure these are not reversed. The offset line-part of the "Y" adapter goes to the wastegate actuator. |
Sara O'Connor (Gngirlchvyguy) | Tuesday, July 16, 2002 - 02:40 pm Ok guys I got my problem figured out and as I was told my a friend of mine "Lets go back to the basics" It was the spark Plugs. Most where gapped to about .45. So we regapped them and it fixed about 95% of the problem. Yesterday went and got new plugs and the problem is completly fixed. That you all for your time and help. |
