Paul Potter (Gnatl86) | Monday, July 22, 2002 - 11:06 am Thanks to all that have responded to my "problem"...I have had the car for over 10 years with no problems..no it is all hitting me...Hey anyway, I got the sensor out ...put the new one in...in the process of getting it out ...I broke the ...interrupt ring..or magnetic pick-up...I am not sure what it is called...anyway...eveyone says I do not need that, but after I put the new crank sensor on...it still will not fire.....The GM parts guy had no clue what I was talking about...I even took the broken pieces.....Any suggestion??? and what the hell is it called....?? Thanks for the help everyone in advance. Paul--1986 GN |
Joseph Cheung (Jcheung) | Monday, July 22, 2002 - 12:24 pm Did you break or distort the metal interrupter ring or did you break the sensor? If you broke or distorted the metal interruptor ring, you'll need to replace the harmonic balancer. If you broke the sensor, you'll need to replace the sensor. I assumed you used the crank sensor tool to center the sensor between the interrruptor ring? If you broke the sensor off of the timing cover, I hope it didn't crack the cover or mess up the sensor hold down bracket. |
Paul Potter (Gnatl86) | Wednesday, July 24, 2002 - 04:11 pm What is the crank sensor tool.....I put on a new bracket and sensor and used the copper feeler guage and set it according to the book...Am I missing something?...anyway, the car still is not firing so I guess it is off to the other NO START situations.. Thanks--Paul |
Scott Przybysz (Priz) | Wednesday, July 24, 2002 - 11:41 pm It is just as special tool that GM made up(or somebody) that makes it a little faster(possibly.) Using a feeler gauge with the correct thickness will work just fine. There are two slots on the crank sensor(and again I can't remember which one we use), one will work, one won't. You may have it using the wrong slot. Good luck. |
