Okay - this is starting to get annoying. It's been slowly getting worse..

The only way to describe is right before a 1-2nd shift..and at 2-3 at very easy throttle..the front-end (engine?) makes a fairly loud "buzzing" or rattling sound...building up in the last couple hundred RPM's right before it shifts..

I can very easily hear it from inside the car and can feel it on the gas pedal, etc. Just a vibration of some sort it sounds like ( i hope).

Nothing appears to be loose under the car - but this is impossible to troubleshoot since it only does it while driving...cant have a buddy on a crawler hooked underneath the car while goin 30mph trying to pinpoint the source. ;)

If my ears serve me right - it really sounds like it's at the driver's side..anybody experience this rattling, or buzzing before shifts? Im just looking for any clues what it might be cause it's gonna make me crazy! I wana hear whistle, not buzzing :)

Thanks for any suggestions to pinpoint it - again..nothing is physically loose that I can actually touch from on top or underneath the car.? Im just wondering if someone experienced this before, and what the culprit was so I can save a ton of time!

Some thoughts:
  • Loose heat shield on the headers
  • Loose brace on the back of the altenator
  • Loose brace on the back of the A/C compressor
  • Loose dipstick (hey, it could be! :))
  • Torque converter bolts loose
  • Trans dust shield loose
  • Loose heat shield on turbo
  • Loose downpipe bolts

Will it do it when you power brake it? Check the intercooler brackets.

Oh - sorry folks. I replied to the list, not the forum :)

Problem is solved - it was the Heat-Shield on the drivers-side manifold. Welded it in a couple places, and she's nice & quiet now!

Thanks for all the tips!
