| | Friday, January 24, 2003 - 10:57 am I have looked through all the messages prior to this and just gotten confused. I am going to replace my timing chain, but trying to figure out what is best. I am not building a racing machine just something fast on the road. Should I get a double roller or just oem type. and at the same time getting a new radiator from Nick at arizonagn, so should i go with a heavy duty water pump or again oem style. Thank you

| | Friday, January 24, 2003 - 04:54 pm since you want to go fast on the street i would go hevy duty to cool the engine. for longer durability i would go with the double roller chain and get the cam buton with the roller bearing on it or the stock button will drill into the cover.

| | Friday, January 24, 2003 - 04:54 pm My vote is to stick with the OEM. Buy from one of our GN vendors. I used the stock plastic Cam gear. No problems for me but others might say differently. Replace the tensioner and cam button. Also, change the crankshaft rope seal to a lip seal. Double check the oil pump when you have it apart, use new seals there too. My vote is to stay with a NEW stock water pump from GM. Otherwise, go with what Nick says. Patrick Ireland '87 GN patricki@optonline.net

| | Friday, May 30, 2003 - 07:32 pm Just get a OEM steel replacement. Also, get a roller bearing cam button! Your front cover will last longer. I did it recently, changed the rear main seal, front seal, water pump, and timing change all at the same time. REMEMBER TO PRIME YOUR OIL PUMP AFTER THE JOB!!!!! Or you will be replacing a lot more.

| | Friday, June 06, 2003 - 04:22 am I would say this is a opinion thing I personally would go with the double roller but I am told that the OE is just as good, go with what you feel comfortable with(my non-turbo 231 went 200k with a stock chain,no problems). The roller cam button is a good idea and I would look very close at the inside of the oil pump and if there is any scoring I would spend some money and replace the timing cover. Just my thoughts.
