Trevor Stine (Tstine) | Monday, May 19, 2003 - 04:18 pm Does anyone know what the differences are between a Buick 3.8l V6 and a Supercharged Buick 3.8 V6 1996-2002. What are the compression ratios? What in the engine is different(crank, rods, pistons)? Thank you Trevor |
Bobby M. Duplessis (Bobbyd) | Monday, May 19, 2003 - 07:01 pm I think the compression is higher in the supercharged motor and the buick motor has shaft style rocker arms and the supercharged motor doesn't |
Trevor Stine (Tstine) | Tuesday, May 20, 2003 - 02:48 pm Would i have a problem if I took a supercharger from a 96-02 Buick and put it on a 2002 Buick 3.8 V6 that was not originally supercharged. If so, what should i replace? |
ian dower (Igd) | Wednesday, May 21, 2003 - 05:56 am The compression is LOWER on the supercharged buick motor. Therefore it would not be a good idea to put a super charger from a factory blown 3.8 onto an N.A. 3.8. I would also be shocked if the cam shaft was the same between the two. In addition there may be other significant bottom end differences which make for a stronger motor, as there are with the LC2 Turbo Regal motors and their N.A. sister engine, but i am not positive. I know there are a few web sites dedicated to these motors (at least one is a Pontiac Bonneville site). If you can't find a reliable source on the web, maybe you can find a really nice GM parts guy to look up the crank, rods, pistons, rod bolts, cylinder heads, injectors and rocker arms (am i missing anything here?). He may be more willing to help you out if you slip him $20 or so for his time :o) |
Bobby M. Duplessis (Bobbyd) | Friday, May 23, 2003 - 12:17 pm the buick supercharged motor has stamped steel rockers and the N.A. motor has roller rockers on the heads. Plus I did a side by side comparison and the N.A. motor had GM stamped on it and a GM casting number and the supercharged motor had Saginaw stamped on it. My guess is the supercharged block is made stronger in the casting process |
