Patrick Ireland (Pireland) | Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 06:59 am I've got the adjustable waste gate rod set so that it just slides into the hole in the waste gate lever. The boost lines and solenoid are new and are stock. Boost is too high and not very repeatable. I'd like around 15-16 and get 18 with some spikes. Does this suggest that I need a new waste gate actuator? |
Patrick Ireland (Pireland) | Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 11:49 am My son drove the car today, he notes that the turbo is slow to spool which makes sense 'cause I've got the wastegate a little open. The car is boosting up to 20 psi (way too high!)(he gets off the throttle when this happens). I need some help with the things that control boost. My understanding that the only control that limits boost is the balance between the spring force in the wastegate actuator and the pressure(s) in the boost lines leading to the solenoid. Naturally if the actuator is leaking, the pressure won't develop in the boost lines and the wastegate doesn't open correctly. I know the ECM controls the wastegate solenoid but can it control the amount of boost? |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 02:21 pm I HAD THE PROBLEM OF SLOW BOOST AND COME TO FIND OUT THE TURBO ELBOW PUCK WAS STICKING. YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY ANOTHER ACTUATOR FIRST AND CHECK ALL THE HOSES |
Robert Quinn (Bigbad_Bob) | Saturday, June 14, 2003 - 07:08 pm I have a 1987 Buick Turbo. When the car goes into turbo mode, at about 40 mph, it seems like it studders or loses power. At that time the hose blows off of the wastegate. Does anyone think that it could be due to the wastegate solenoid? |
