Hi all, Had an 87 GN for last couple months, been upgrading a few things like fuel pump and fpr.
Eng. has 87k Mi. and was advised that it was a good idea to put new valve springs in before doing many more mods. Got some new Crane double valve springs for stock application, when I removed old springs, I found stock springs sitting in a sleeve/basket type thing? Never saw this type of setup before. Now the stupid ques. My chiltons doesn't show them, do I need to put the new springs back into the stock sleeves/baskets when I install them?

Thanks for any info.
Jim

No. Those sleeve/basket thinga-ma-jigs are intended to keep the spring from getting squirrelly when it is compressed. Although I am not familiar with what a "double valve spring" for stock appliation exactly looks like, it is my guess that the inner spring will provide the stability that the spring needs. I replaced my springs with CompCams Springs and those springs had a coiled piece of metal inside of them to stabilize the spring.

Hi, thanks for the response, called Crane and the only thing they could tell me was to make sure spring height was correct, so had to reuse the sleeve things to get height right. Boy that rear spring on pass. side is a bear to get to, had to cut an inch off my tool to deal with it.

Thanks
Jim
