I appear to have a small oil leak problem from the valve covers. I'm currently using synthetic oil, so I'm not sure whether this is causing the problem. Any suggesting on what type of valve cover gaskets I should use? I've seen some that are made of sylicone, so they don't require any gasket glue.

I've always had great luck with Felpro VS50156R (R suffix for rubber). Generally around 10-15 dollars a pair. Felpro also makes a super wazoo gasket called a "Perma Dry Plus" VS50156T, but so far the standard rubber have done the job.
I have always used the GM ruberized cork, silver painted gasket. Coated with lots of 3M yellow trim glue. It seems to last longer than any other type. Alumium covers have always been a problem when bolted to iron heads.
