I've been trying to get the idle to stay steady on my 87 GN. The engine itself is stock with about 87k miles on it but I drive it conservatively. Replacing the idle controller motor and the plugs & wires didn't solve this. Compression was perfect and there are no noticeable mechanical errors. It still runs tight it's just got a bit of a rocky idle. Any fixes? I may run through the whole engine this winter anyways.

I disagree. I don't think that's the nature of these cars.
Look for intake tract leaks, fuel delivery problems (weak fuel pump, clogged filter, clogged injectors, etc.), bad MAF, or a bad O2 sensor.
There are many things that can cause idle wander. Without looking at some good scan tool data, its pretty hard to come up with an obvious cause.
