I am investigating putting a Buick v6 into a 58 Morris Minor, the engine bay is very short. I have spent a bit of time at the auto recyclers measuring engines and was wondering if I can take the components from the timing cover forward from a RWD engine and use them on a RWD engine to make the shortest possible engine.

Don't you mean taking the components from the timing cover forward from a FWD engine and use them on a RWD engine?
I would think you could, you'd just have to get an electric fan setup. And actually you should be able to pull the whole setup, ie motor, computer, wiring harness, and fan all from the donor car. Then just try to fit the fan and shroud on your radiator. That way you would have the relays to control the fan instead of just splicing in switches. Good luck
