| | Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 07:27 pm Hello all, Have a chance to pick up a 1984 4.1 motor. I have been scanning the web site for info about building up this engine to replace the 3.8.The questions I have is this, will the 3.8 intake, exhaust headers, sensors, ecm etc. fit or work on the 4.1? Of course the engine will be rebuilt with turbo pistions and such. What about the front cover? Will the 3.8 camshafts work in the 4.1? I know there must be someone out there that has been there done that with this project. Not looking for all the answers just a little guidance. Maybe there is some where on the web or a book detailing such a project. Thanks for your help in advance Regards,Todd

| | Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 07:50 pm Take a look at: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/recipes/41recipe.html Heads, intake, etc. all fit fine. Since you have some extra displacement, you can often get away with more camshaft than the 3.8s. Something in the 218/218 range may work nicely. Front covers need to be for the 14 bolt variety (vs. the later 3.8 20 bolts).

| | Saturday, December 01, 2001 - 10:10 am Ken, Thanks for your input. I picked up the 4.1 today and got the casting numbers off of the head and block they are 25506293 and 25514291 respectivly. Is this a 1983 setup? I did locate the link http://www.gnttype.org/general/v6hist.html but I am not clear on this. Thanks again,Todd p.s. the Turbolink is great! Thanks

| | Tuesday, July 02, 2002 - 04:27 pm I too am trying to work on a 4.1 engine! I have posted several times and the post never seems to work! My biggest question is where/ how to get the dished forged pistons! I have read the 4.1 recipe and still don''t know. Everything else S/B pretty straight forward. Keep me posted and I'll do the same!
