I am rebuilding my GN engine and am going to use a rubber rear main seal. I remember replacing a rear main once before and getting the two straight pieces of rubber that seal the rear man bearing was a pain. Fel-Pro provided two pieces of metal that looked like nails. Any tricks i should use to get the rear main to seal perfect??

Personally, I used those side seals, and the "nails" that came with them. Took my time, and followed the directions on the GNTTYPE instructions page, EXCEPT; I didn't fill the side cavities with RTV like they said, I gave each side seal a light coat of RTV and crammed them into position, and then drove the "nails" in, making sure they did not protrude (could interfere with the pan gasket).
Let the whole thing set up for at least 24 hours.
This seal hasn't leaked a single drop in over 2 years!!
I followed the directions on the website to the T and didn't have any leaks either. I also used the thick cork gasket with a very light coating of RTV black (as someone on the website suggested). No leaks there either.
