hello, im new here and i just got my 86 gn and am having a few problems with it and was hoping for some advice. first once the boost comes up while driving look in the mirror all i see is 2 carbon clouds what could cause this ,when at idle its at 2 grand and smells rich and loads up and stalls in traffic,then when you restart carbon clouds are back. im going to do a tune up on christmas plugs air filt pcv but i think its more than that, car has lots of power but poor gas milage. im new to the turbo scene so any info/advice/directions/comments would be great.i want to get it running right before any mods are made. i washed the motor lightly and a code 22 came up tps riht? how do i erase the code?thanks
Very hard to determnine the precise cause of your problem(s) without more information. Could be anything from a bad MAF to an injector stuck open to a simple hole in the intake tract, or all sorts of other things. You didn't mention if the car has any modifications or is completely stock.
The TPS code could indicate that the TPS is damaged and that could be a big part of the problem.
To properly diagnose the problem you need to check fuel pressure, and look at data from the ECM with a scan tool. It would probably be best to seek some guideance from someone who has such tools, knows how to use them, and actually knows the TRs well. That could be a group member or a friendly TR tuner in your area willing to help.
Disconnecting the orange wire off the battery positive at its connector for a few seconds will clear the ECM, but I'm guessing there's a problem that will just set the code again.
Note that the only proper PCV valve for the 86/87 cars is an AC part and will probably be a special order from your dealer or available from a TR vendor.
