Can I use to big of a fuel pump with my stock 1987 GN. Would like to upgrade turbo and injectors in the future. But I need fuel pump now. Can I buy a fuel pump that can handle high horsepower and use it with stock motor and regulate it down?

I am still learning about these cars, but here is my $.02.
I upgraded my fuel pump to an armstrong xp. I have stock turbo and stock injectors. My only mods are a THDP, hi flow cat, flowmasters and K&N filter. The car has 100K on it.
My driving habits consist of getting on and off the gas "real hard". Sometimes, when I get off the gas "real hard", it will stall. It will start right back up.
My mechanic tells me that I am not giving the gas enough time to burn off and that is why it is stalling. He says that an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will cure this. I believe him.
So, my answer is yes, definately get an upgraded pump, just make sure you get an adjustable fule pressure regulator (adj fpr) also. I heard the billet is the best. Forgot who makes it...good luck...
Oh yeah, don't forget the hot wire kit for the fuel pump...
Actually, that's a tuning issue (IAC needs to be reset) or a symptom of the fuel pressure being too high. The bigger pump does nothing other than give you "head room" at high demand situations (i.e. WOT).
I'd reset the IAC and adjust the fuel pressure with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to eliminate your stalling...
David, a better fuel pump wiht adjustable pressure regulator is a very safe and worthwhile first step. Again, all it gives you is extra capacity, since the fuel pressure regulator (if adjusted correctly) will only allow the proper amount of fuel to the rail anyway.

My IAC, TPS, etc is all OK. But I do not have an adj fpr yet. The stalls mainly happen when I go immediately from "WOT" to "hard on the brakes"...
