The first thing I would do is fill the gas tank completely full with a fuel that contains a stabilizer and let it run for a short time to get that fuel into the lines and injectors. Fill the tank to prevent condensation from forming in the tank and use or add stabilizer to prevent the fuel from gumming up over time which can cause problems later.
If you have good rubber on the car, you might consider storing it on jack stands to save your tires. If you do this make sure your suspension is supported at all four corners.
I would also put some rat poison in the trunk and passenger compartment to discourage something from making a home of your ride. Even under the hood if there is no chance for someones pet to get to it. Buy it in a brick from a farm and fleet store.
Hopefully you can to store it in a controlled envirement. If it's going to be in cold storage you may want to wax or oil anything that might rust, corrode or oxidize. You may even consider removing the spark plugs, squirting some engine oil onto the cylinder walls and replacing the plugs. Grease the chassis, too.
It would be nice if you had someone you trust to drive it once in a while to keep everything wet.
If I think of anything else, I will post later.
Good Luck
Jon

a small question about the stabilizer, can you recomend anything like, paint thinner or milk. would that be what you mean by stabilizer, or is it an actual product you can buy at the local auto parts retailer.

You may be able to find stabilizer as an additive at an auto parts store. The only place I have seen it sold as an additive is a John Deere dealer. My local co-op claims the fuel they sell has a stabilizer in it. Your best bet is probably to purchase VP or 76 fuel from your local speed shop. Call the fuel manufacturer or ask for a brochure on the fuel to be sure it has an additive.

Why not use real fuel stabilizer? See http://www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/ This stuff is available at some good parts stores.

I would not use race fuel. It has lots of light aromatics which will evaoporate easily. Don't think it will store well for long periods of time.
