Scott Moody (87gn_70gs) | Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 07:09 am Back when there was a Heart of Dixie club based here in Huntsville, the president (as well as most everybody else) became familiar with the "Bill and Bill Show" (former prez Mike's favorite term), referring to Bill Lankford and Bill Ragland, who seemed inseparable, whether at meetings, events or the track. Both Bills were immediately likeable and even if you had never met them, they both made you feel as if you had known them all your life. Anyway, it was through this personal association that Bill R. offered to Mike to have a club meeting at his home. There was a big cookout, and a "soda" and BS session that soon followed. We were standing around talking and I was relating a difficult problem I was having with my GN at the time. It really had me stumped and I had tried everything. Bill L. offered to go for a ride with me and bring his laptop with diagnostic software. We went for a quick ride and after just a few seconds, Bill L. closed the top of the laptop and said to turn around and go back and that he knew what it was. We pulled in and he rummaged around Bill's garage for a minute and came back with a set of plug wires. In disbelief and being very doubting, I changed the wires and to my amazement, it solved the problem. I had this dumbfounded look on my face as I couldn't believe that is was something so simple and that he could find it so quickly. Anyway, he was a pretty good sport about it and didn't poke too much fun at me (wish I could say the same for the others, as they had a good time with that one!) I remember that he was always willing to help out others with his advice or expertise without too much consideration of himself. |
