Rob Reese (Tta1387) | Thursday, March 07, 2002 - 05:18 pm I just put a PT51, 50# injectors, THDP, and 3" cat-back over the winter. With the new found power, my tranny is starting to protest a little. I know it'll need a rebuild but I'm hoping to make it until the end of the summer to get that done. Is there anything I can do to help it make it until then? Right now its not bad but its there. Never did it before the new mods went on. The trans is stock except for a Art Carr shift kit. Would running Type F help? Will anything help? Thanks |

There's a lot of debate about Type F, and I'm not sure if any of the tranny guru's recommend it anymore. I do use it, and I've had good service from my transmission from stock down to the 12.0-11.8 range. I don't think it's going to do anything for you if yours is already well-abused, however. What I would suggest is insuring you have a fresh filter, properly fitted. That means no old O-rings stuffed up in the bore. That may not be as easy as it sounds. I'd also suggest overfilling the tranny case slightly. Perhaps just enough to get an extra 1/8" or so indication on the dipstick. This may help keep the filter under fluid during hard acceleration and avoid 'flaring'. |
