Had my tranny rebuilt 10 months ago. Last night while going about 20 mph, I punched the throttle. It seemed to shift into second a little late. While waiting at the next traffic light my car started smoking like crazy. 2 blocks later the car was bareky driveable. Luckily I was home. By this time most of the tranny fluid was gone and the rest ended up on my garage floor.
Would a blown front seal cause the fluid to pour out like it did? It did not drip, it was a steady stream coming from between the torque converter and the tranny.

Whoa - 3 months and no reply!! Common prob with the 2004R - not enough return area for the front bushing, esp when it wears, and the fluid can blow the front seal out. Good shops will drill out the oil return bigger to fix it. Some 2004R's came with a metal clip on the seal to help hold it in.
