Hey guys, I swapped a fresh rblt(trans-go kit)2004r out of my 85t I was selling, to my 86t. Just now hearing about this BRF thing. Had sloppy shifts, so I installed the B&M transpac, used street/strip instructions. Have an overrev problem in ANY gear(defaults to 1st.)Gov. good, spring OK. Removed the spacer from behind 1-2 acc., big improvement but still too harsh in M3, too sloppy in M4, and overrev still exists. Any help greatly appreciated.

The '84-5 turbo transmissions are lots different internally than the '86-7's. The tranny guy doing my stuff has been working on 200-4R's since 1981 and had done a couple '84's to '87 specs. Lots of trial and error and different parts and springs are needed. Not sure all he does, but it takes a few hours just to get them close.

I have been told that a BQ?(either 3 or 8)(84-85) and BRF(86-87) valvebody are pretty much the same thing and both will work equally well. As far as the rest of the internals go, I was just told that you need to put the right beefed up parts in, but otherwise you could take pretty much any 200-4R, put the beefed up parts, ie servo, in and use a BQ or BRF valvebody and it will be just fine. If I was lied to, somebody please tell me, I'd like to make sure it will last.

Scott, the info you were given is "sorta" correct. If you are describing a stock build car there will be little difference. When you get to 12 sec. or better, the gap gets very wide.

To get the shifts timed right with more power is difficult. The specific one we worked on is a low 12 sec. '84 converted to '87 and we still do not have it shifting like an '87, close, but not as good. Street driving is almost no difference. The WOT shifts are not as good or timed as well.

Please observe the disclaimer: this is based upon what we have found, other opinions may vary .............

Thanks for the input guys! I'd like to keep working with this trans, since, now I've got a lot of time and $ invested. Anybody hear of this overrev issue? At any speed, in D3, it will default to 1st when mashed down(full TV detent)?
