Troy Corser (Gnnewbie) | Saturday, September 21, 2002 - 03:26 pm I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted or completed a Manual Transmission swap for a GN.I really like to own a GN but I can't get over the fact they only come with as Automatics.... I come from the Mustang land...where the aftermarket has developed kits that allow you to changer over the tranny from a AOD to a T-5. I was wondering if possibly the GN community has anything like that. Any info would be much appriciated... Thank You |
Nick Micale (Arizonagn) | Saturday, September 21, 2002 - 03:39 pm Well, you need to get over it or go back to "Mustang land"! The turbo Buicks do not work well with standard shift trannys from an acceleration point of veiw. No kits or easy conversion available. |
Ken Mosher (Kenmosher) | Sunday, September 22, 2002 - 08:38 am It's been done (way back in the late 80s) by one of the magazines and the car slowed down significantly. The manual swap can be done, but involves a LOT of parts hunting for things such as flywheels and clutch linkages (or a lot of custom fabricating). In the end you have a combination that isn't all that effective, from what we've all seen. Maybe a new 6 speed would be slicker, but it's hard to beat the combination of the stock automatic for laoding the turbo and taking advantage of the torque. |
