| | Tuesday, September 24, 2002 - 06:06 pm I recently replaced the TCC solenoid. Prior to this the transmission would upshift much too quickly. After replacement, the transmission will not shift to second or third at wide open throttle. In order to shift, I have to take my foot off the gas then it will shift. It also seems to tach up too quick. The tachometer redlights. Any ideas.

| | Wednesday, September 25, 2002 - 07:02 pm I agree with Geoffrey, governor spring. I would replace the entire governor [http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/tranny/transguide.html], not just the spring or just reinstalling the old one. Once they pop off they'll continue to pop off. Very simple job. 1) Remove the tranny pan [http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/transmission/tranfluid.html]. 2) Remove the governor housing which is at the rear of the tranny just below the speedo cable[http://www.montecarloss.com/TCC_3.jpg]. 3) Remove the governor and spring. Note: make sure you remove the old governor spring and the old oil ring off the oil filter (they tend to stay in the bore).

| | Tuesday, October 08, 2002 - 10:12 am Hola. Does the gov spring control the shifting of ALL gears at WOT? Or just OD? My car shift fine from 1-2, 2-3. But from 3-OD it overrev's. TIA

| | Friday, June 20, 2003 - 09:09 am Hey guys. Sorry for the long winded write up but I thought I'd give an update on the shifting problems with my transmission. Originally, I inquired that the car was taching up too quickly and redlighting and was told to look at the governor spring. What I didn't take into consideration was that the turbo boost guage was also redlighting. I figured that it was time to take the car to a professional and let him diagnose it. I took the car to a very reputable transmission repair facility in Mercer County New Jersey, Joe's Hamilton Transmission. After a short test ride, Joe knew exactly what it was. It was the pressure regulator sleeve hanging up on a bur. The pressure regulator is located in front of the valve body to the drivers side. The respective pieces were taken out and the bur was removed. The regulator was reinstalled. the tranny was filled with new fluid and we took it back out for a ride. The whine and rattle were still present before the ride but was told they would go away once the fluid circulated. They were right. The tranny shifted like it did when it did when it was new. Thankfully the shifting problem is solved !! Hope this helps anybody else with similar symptoms.
