My engine has been rebuilt. Picked the car up yesterday. On the way home I noticed that the car was not shifting correctly. What I mean by not shifting correctly is from 1st to 2nd the shift's were soft. In 3rd gear the car would rev high and I would have to tap the throttle to have it shift to OD. And today the shift from 2nd to 3rd is no were to be found. Turbolink never shows 3rd gear engaged or TCC. Occasionally, 4th gear will display "ON" but there is no shift and rpm's continue to climb. Never had transmission trouble before the engine overhaul. Could the engine guys have screwed something up and caused my problem? Or could it just be a coincidence and my transmission is failing? I pray it's something simple. I've just shelled out alot of money on a engine rebuild.

I would try re-setting the TV cable to the factory specifications, it may have gotten out of whack when they had the engine out.

My newly rebuilt 2004r trans on my 87 GN seems to slip when i floor it getting on expressway... seems to grab then release then grab and release.. my Turbo link reads 5-7 degrees of knock retard is it possible they put wrong converter in it??? or??? does the tranny need to be torn down again? If I slowly acclerate its fine, good hard shifts.. but when i nail it.. its seems to slip or not go like it should????? It won't even break the tires loose. The stall speed seems to be 1500-1600rpm. Any suggestions on a replacement torque converter?

Wilburt, I had same thing, low stall speed,(not slip & grab)happen to me when I had my IROC's 700-R4 redone. Most tranny shops seem to just put in a reman converter that is laying on their shelf with all the other "mom & pop " converters. It ran good in first, (it's so low a gear to begin with) but second, and higher gears felt like I lost a hundred horsepower. And my tach never came over 1600 RPM until the road speed matched the drivetrain speed. I think they either don't know any better, or are afraid of the percieved extra heat a higher stall converter may generate, and put standard ones in for warranty reasons. On the slip/grab/slip/grab thing. Make sure to check your parking brake. If you don't use it very often, and a shop, or say a tow company does. It may hang up causing wierd raod manners similar to a slipping trans. Block front tires in both driections. Jack up both rear tires off the ground, see if they spin freely in nuetral. If not try wiggling the cables housings/tubes around to free up the internal cable. This usually is enough. Otherwise the drums have to come off, and cables pulled back with a pry bar. Good luck, and let us know what it is/was.

Bill, do you or anyone else have advice on a replacement torque converter? 12" or 9"??? 9.5 Precision vigilante or 12" Street brawler??? I really don't want to spend money twice. Because I plan on adding a bigger turbo (TE-44), fuel injectors, and necking the IC this summer. I do have the basic mods: fuel pump, hot wire kit, 3" downpipe, 2.5" exhaust, fp reg., and new valve springs.
