New member here.I have a 88 Mazda RX-7 with a 350 backed by a 200-4r. I know i dont drive a GN or turbo Regal, but i have nowhere else to turn.

When it shifts into second, it shifts very rough or choppy. It is like it starts to shift--hesitates--and then shifts. When it does finally shift, it shifts nice and firm(breaks tires loose at WOT), but the slippage or hesitation in between bothers me.

Also, Is there a way to make the tranny hold O/D at WOT? It wont even shift into O/D at WOT. When racing, I have to let off the gas to get it to shift, and as soon as i hit it again, it downshifts, ALL AT 120MPH!!!!!

Dont start posting links about adjusting the tv cable, Iknow how to do that, and i have done it many times and many different ways. None worked!!!

By the way, I just completed a total rebuild of the trannie. I used all red eagle clutches and band. It also has a B&M shift kit without the spacers in the accumulator valves.

Thanks in advance...

well i dont know about the shifting problem even thugh my trans non my 84 gn does the same, but it is not good. the down shifting is doing what it is supposed to do when you get up to 45 mph or higher the trans goes into over drive to save gas and as soon as you get on the gas or brake the overdrive shuts off lettig you accelerate or slow down.

I'am not the biggest expert on the 200-4R but your shifting problem sounds like the intermediate servo is screwed up. Thats the 3 inch round cover on the side. It aplies pressure against the band for the 1-2 and I think the OD shift. I have several NA cars with the 200-4R and granted they cant pull themselves out of a wet paper bag but none of them shift out of OD when WOT is aplied. Also a seal on one of the clutches leaking internally might affect the shifts too. Did some one who is familiar with the 200-4R build you trans? You might have to tear it down again to check. I deal with a couple of transmission rebuilders and they all tell me it took them some time to get rebuilding these things right. I've been told that this trans has tighter clearances than the old 3 speeds so its not one of those I can rebuild it with hand tools in my driveway deals.

I did the rebuild myself, and double and tripple checked every seal. Also, my O/D shift is nice and snappy, so if it is the servo, wouldnt it affect my O/D shift also?

A clue might be in the fact that it doesn't hold O/D at WOT. I wonder if it is a pressure problem (did you use the "upgraded" pressure regulator valve and 10 or 13 vane pump?)

Stock, a 200-4R will hold O/D at WOT above about 105 MPH (with TR 3.42 gearing).

I used the stronger pressure regulator spring that came with the b&m kit. Sounds like the kit is prolly my problem. I am checking on the prices of a Superior Shift Kit with the upgraded valve.

I just rebuilt the stock pump. I didnt go 10 or 13 cause it doesnt increase pressure, it just evens out the pressure pulses at high RPM. Seeing that this motor will not spent much of its time at high RPM, i opted out of that upgrade.

Actually, it decreases the "buzzz" at idle that the 7 vane pump often had.... it also can help equalize pressure at all RPMs.

I've used the B&M kit in several of my transmissions without any problems, so I wonder if there's a check ball or something out of place?

I fixed it!!! When i did the rebuild, I took the spacers out of the accumulators, so i put the one back in the 1-2 acc. Well it will spin the tires shifting into 2nd now. Thanks for the input guys.....
