1996 bone stock Impala SS w/128K(+)mi.(mostly on highway no trailer hitch & not hammered hard on regular basis) ... water pump @ about 100K... Fuel pump shortly after... been great ride... coming back on fifty mile one-way four days ago stopped @ light when took off thought truck next to me was kind of loud- guess it wasn't the truck! My wife has been driving my car in town since... she called after work and said transmission quit... no gears. Drove her truck to town... started Impala put it in reverse & it caught... shifted into drive and it caught... thought this is not right no way she would call if there was no problem! Power-braked & sounded like something gave-up & popped - no more 1st or reverse killed it fired it up & had reverse NO LOW Gear ... rode sled-truck home has reverse but sometimes no... have not tried 2nd position... have noise sounds like maybe torque converter or maybe pump? Full of fluid... Maybe just a "Friday 13th Thing" I can't tell! Never was a transmission hand... always just put in another one if it wasn't an obvious problem... but I can't tell about this electronic stuff...ANYONE BEEN HERE? Thank You For the HELP!
