Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Monday, July 07, 2003 - 04:56 pm I Have been discussing a boost control problem with quite a few people. I have come to the conclusion that it is converter related,... Bob slusser told me that I should check my stall,....well...... I tried power braking it and it start spinning tires with NO BOOST,...and about 1300 RPM??? There for I pulled the sheild off of my 1 year old transmission (aamco) and the converter looked brand new but said only 20G on it???? Anyone have a clue as to why a proffesional transmission company would put this "no stalling" hunk of crap in a 87 grand national?????? Please keep in mind my first gear sucks bad,....15 psi...slow spool up but 2nd....and 3rd....is better than great! also,.. What stall should I get and shouldnt they put it in...since it is not the right one? |
Kevin Webb (Onefastjackass) | Monday, July 07, 2003 - 05:55 pm Did you have the trans done or did someone before you |
Kevin Webb (Onefastjackass) | Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 04:41 am Why I am asking is that if you had it done then they should make it right but sometimes if someone else had it done they will not cover it because it was a different owner.Or if you know the previouse owner and he was the one who had it done then you could have him go in and pretend he is still the owner. Anyway you look at it I would try to get them to make it right because they are the ones who messed up not you. Also don't bother answering the question above. If you are the one who originally had it done or not since I have already answered youre question and you never know who is looking at the board. Explain that you don't have just another buick and that the stall in the our convertor's is much higher then a NA one and that It will and does not run correct unless a 2400 to 3000 lock up style convertor is in the car.Tell them a D5 was stock with a 2400 stall and that is the minumum that these cars run correctly with. A Little complaining in the correct ear never hurt either so if the guy at the aamco place doesn't want to make it right ask to speak to his boss.Just keep climbing the ladder until you get satisfaction. Also if they try to give you the run around too much it might not hurt to let them know that alot of people on the internet and all youre friends will know if they made it right or not and that they will probibly loose more money by lost buisness if they don't fix it then by just fixing it.Also make it well known that you know how to contact the Better buisness bureau and you will also be contacting AAMCO,s headquarters if it does not get resolved. And if you can't tell if someone who owns a buisness doesn't do right by me I can be there worst nightmare. Start out being nice and then turn up the wick slowly from there. Also of you have to really push them into doing it please be present when they work on the car and keep and eye on them. Not saying most buisnesses arn't good and would do anything but after getting into a fight with them I sure wouldn't feel right leaving my car and coming back to pick it up. Have a nice day and hopfully everything will work out OK |
Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Monday, July 28, 2003 - 10:42 am UP DATE! Well,... I took it down to ammco and they gladly put a "J&B" 2400 stall in w/ no problems and best of all NO CHARGE! Which took care of that dang boost problem ! So then I get it back and 2nd gear seems to be slipping??? So the next day I have NO second gear at all,... I called them back and they said to bring it by on monday. So,... I take it up there and stand out in the rain!! for 15 minutes while this jackass goes on a joy ride with my baby. He comes back and says " yep...yer right, it aint got second"........(i wanted to bitch slap him sooo bad!) so I says,..."well no , Did you think I was lying?" And he says,...welp...I'll rebuild it labor free but you have to pay for the parts.....So I proceeded to go off on these rednecks and finally I took my keys from him and said I wont be back!!! SO,............ I need to find me 400R or somthing strong to put back in it any suggestions? |
Kevin Webb (Onefastjackass) | Monday, July 28, 2003 - 12:53 pm Are you gonna just race it or are you gonna daily drive it??If just racing then a 400 with a trans brake would be ideal. But for racing and daily driving I would stick with the original trans. Sorry to here about the problem you have been having. |
Dan B. (Notacarlo) | Sunday, August 03, 2003 - 08:09 pm Slick, I had the SAME EXACT thing happen to me by AAMCO. I interviewed them before I let them even look at the car. They assured me that they knew that this was a "special" 2004R transmission. I should have took the 2 seconds of silence when I asked them if they knew the difference between the VB on the Buick as opposed to a cutlass as PLEASE LEAVE HERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND NEVER LOOK BACK! But I did'nt. Instead I took their word for it and I got screwed. At that point there were Honda's out there that could out launch me. I went back several times to complain - bad shifts, no power. I wrote the letters, called B3 to no avail. I wish all of you could have been there to see these guys try to seal the 55+ exaust leaks they caused. I drove off, put a little foot into it and I thought I blew a head gasket. Took it back, they put it on a lift, but could'nt hear the leaks. So I says to Mable I says "it needs to be under load for you to hear it.". BAD IDEA. Dude gets in the car - ON THE LIFT- and starts to power brake my car. The car spit the chocks out from in front of the rear tires and hopped about a foot off the lift coming to a rest with about 1" of tread on the passenger side lift. I have never screamed as loud and as CLEAR as I did that day. "GET OUT OF MY F----g CAR, PUT IT DOWN, GIVE ME MY KEYS AND MY MONEY BACK...RIGHT NOW. Got the car, the keys, but not the money. Lawsuit pending for disrepair. I needed to get that off my chest. Sorry so long. |
Dan B. (Notacarlo) | Sunday, August 03, 2003 - 08:12 pm Oh yeah.....That will never happen again. lessons learned, money burned. |
Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Sunday, August 03, 2003 - 08:44 pm Well,.. Im there with you my brother,...so I believe I speak for many of us when we say Never go to AAMCO!!!!!!!!! |
Pony Killer (Pnyklr) | Monday, August 04, 2003 - 05:52 am Screw Aamco I went there with my 94 Suburban when the transfer case was making noise (I wasnt 100% that was it) I had a coupon for free diagnostic after waiting an hour (the owner was talking to an employee about how they werent doing well) the owner went out to my truck and came back 30 seconds later they didnt do any of the checks they were supposed to." If you leave the truck I can take it apart and let you know in 2 days exactly the problem the transfer case is $1100 just for the part if I take it apart I charge hourly if I have to put it back together if you drive the truck its going to turn into a piece of Shirt" Needless to say I went to the junkyard got a transfer case for $500 and had it installed for $200 Forget Aamco I learned if youre going to get your tranny done get it done get it done by someone who knows what the hell theyre doing !! Chris 94 Suburb 87 GN 85 Regal PS I wont mention the $3500 stock RX7 tranny my brother got scammed from them thats a whole other story |
David Newton (Fast86gn) | Monday, August 04, 2003 - 11:26 am And another AAmco story. This has been a few years back I had a 1970 GS350, the tranny was starting to slip a little so I took it to AAmco because they had advertised a 19.99 fluid & filter change so I thought why not maybe I would get lucky with the F&F change and get a few more miles out of the tranny. The guy at the shop said that I needed a rebuild at the price of about 800.00 keep in mind this was back in about 1992 and for a Turbo350, he said that it wouldn't last another 100 miles if he did the F&F change that the new fluid would eat up the bands faster. I had never heard this before and figured he was full of $h**. I took the car home and did the F&F change myself needless to say I drove that car another 2 years at about 30,000 miles total and never had another problem with the tranny! Enough said! Don't use AAMCO! |
Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 12:56 pm Anyone know of someone between Cincinnati and Dayton I can trust for a rebuild on a 200r4? |
Dan B. (Notacarlo) | Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 03:56 pm NOT AAMCO sorry, had to be done. |

Bob Kolhouse (87ltdt) | Wednesday, August 06, 2003 - 05:46 pm I'd vouch for him...excellent work and a great helpful attitude. He did mine and kept calling me to be sure I was reinstalling it correctly...it was my first trans R&R. He's a really good guy and clearly knows what he's doing. Bob Kolhouse (87LtdT) |
