As posted in a previous section I no longer have second gear. I had a "J&B" 2400 stall converter put in and it seemed that 2nd was slippin bad. I NAILED IT HARD on a long straight away and it slipped into second with avengence,... I mean I felt power like never befor...So then at the next light....It never shifted into second just right into third.
I have no Idea why this maybe,...anyone else have a clue?....it still has no second gear.
ps....it also makes a rattling noise while in reverse.
Sounds like time for a rebuild. The same thing you described happened to mine, except mine never slipped, it just lost 2nd all at once, when I nailed it from 1st, but the rest was fine. I got a total rebuild anyway, and upgraded some parts too.
Well I got a brand new D-5 Converter and have my tranny on the floor Now what? ...who can I trust to rebuild it?
I seen that POSTON has a master rebuild kit for 189.00 I think I am going to buy a manual, and rebuild it myself...anyone else rebuilt a 200r4 themselves?
I figure I have been able to rebuild just about any motor successfully,...why couldnt I do a tranny? it cant be that dang difficult?
Well if all you want to do is throw a converter in, thats no big deal. But if you attempt a rebuild..heh heh..you need tools and experience to do it all RIGHT.

hehe famous last words. Actually I've wondered the same myself, that if I seem to be able to rebuild just about anything else, why not a tranny? I always figured I'd try it on an extra one first, just in case. I thought someone else posted that they did their own rebuild and had no problems? I wish you luck, let us all know what you decide and how it turns out. If it doesn't work, take it back apart and see if whoever you get to put it back together will give you a discount since it's already apart....that's half the work right?
I was in the same boat too. I've rebuilt engines so why not trannies. Well, the only advice I can give you is get a good manual and take your time. It doesn't hurt either to know the inner workings of transmission either. You might need to purchase some special tools, I got by with making my own. However, I did purchase some of the seal installers for the 200-4r. They make sure the seals are correctly seated. Good luck.
